Hi everyone! Lola here!
Sorry I skip a few days at a time. I didn't have a lot of inspiration for new posts and haven't received any questions to answer (yes, you can still ask something :P). I also don't want to make too many Dream Updates, because I'd just be repeating myself and it's not all that interesting.
But I found something! Actually, I wonder how I never thought of making a post on this subject...
We all have these moments when we feel totally demotivated. Some people, like me, go as far as thinking themselves worthless, a waste of space.
Yeah, that does happen to me... but I know exactly what to do at those times.
Today, I'll be giving you some tips on what to do when you feel like giving up on your dream. I'll use my own situation as an example, but this goes for everyone.
I've learnt different methods to keep calm and carry on...
The Situation
Okay, so let's say you make Youtube videos. You don't make them often, but you do your best. You love making videos. It's how you let out your creativity and it feels good to know you're doing something you find worthwhile (yeah, I did say I'd use myself as an example :P).
Then, something happens... someone tells you your videos are worthless, have no value and that you should quit while you're ahead (okay, this isn't actually true for me, but it's something that could happen).
This is just one example of many that could make you demotivated, of course. What counts is that you suddenly want to give up.
You're a very sensitive person and start to question what you do.
"That person's right," you say. "I'm bad at what I do but I can't do anything else".
And that's it. You've been crushed. You don't know what to do anymore. You have a dream you can't even accomplish because you're bad at it.
Or are you?
The Methods
Okay, so, first of all, if someone does ever tell you what you do is worthless, then get that person out of your life as quick as you can. Or at least ignore their comments. If that person can't find anything to say to actually help you get better, then there's no point in listening to such negative things.
The main thing to do, in this case, is to stay positive and keep away from anything or anyone negative.
Here are some methods I use to help myself get better. Try one. :)
1. Talk to someone. If there's someone out there you trust and are close with, then tell them what happened. Spend some time with them if you can, and get your mind off what just happened.
2. Distract yourself. Whether it be cleaning the house, going shopping, going to the cinema with some friends, or spending time with a close friend or family member, do it. Find a way to distract yourself and calm down.
3. Be aware of what you're good at. Make a list of things you know how to do. Better yet, do this when you're feeling positive. Maybe even write yourself a letter to read when you're feeling down. Don't hesitate to compliment yourself and don't be modest. :) It's important to remember that you have value. Everyone has something they're good at. If you think you don't, you just haven't found it yet. Trust me.
4. Keep going! Don't do like I used to do and sit around wondering what to do with your dream. Keep that dream alive and ask people around you what they think of what you do. If they find something's wrong, ask them what it is exactly and how you could make it better.
Above all, remember that the only person keeping yourself from reaching your dreams is you alone. Don't listen to anyone who's ready to crush you. They're likely jealous or just bored with their lives.
On the other hand, don't be paranoid. Not everyone who tells you you're doing something wrong is having a go a If someone says you're doing something wrong, stay calm. Depending on how they say it, respond well.
Never blame anyone else for a failure. It's normal to fail at times, but it's not the end of the world. It's a waste of time to blame someone else. In that time, you could be working on another project instead or doing research on how to be better at what you do.
Well, I hope this was helpful! I'm sure there are other ways to deal with this problem, but the ones I have stated are the ones I use.
Your turn to share! Tell me what you think about my methods. Do you agree? Do you have any other methods you use to stay positive and keep going? Share your story!
Thanks for reading; keep on dreaming!
I agree with what you said, all the points you listed can help a person out of a roadblock and progress further onwards towards their goals. I think one more method that I can think of is trial and error, in that you make the project related to the dream, and if it doesn't turn out as good as imagined, just look at all the faults and try again, often one of the best ways to get good at something is to keep on trying over and over again, getting better each time.
