I hope I haven't been boring you with these recent posts, haha. Here's another dream I recently had..
Before I get into it, though, I'd like to remind you that you can talk about your own life dreams in this post. I'll be featuring some comments in a later post. :)
Today's story: My dream of drawing out stories... (past)
We're starting to enter older dreams of mine now. But this one isn't so old...
The Birth Of My Dream
It all started when I was 12 and living in Italy. There was a girl in my class who loved to draw and she showed me a few tips to do so myself. I didn't draw all the time, but the few times I did, I really enjoyed it.
I then moved to France. I made friends and entered the world of Ratchet and Clank (yes, it's relevant). That's where I came up with a story and drew the characters for it. I also joined DeviantART (click for account -> no longer active) and was very inspired by various artist. I made plenty of friends and some even helped me draw better. I got personal lessons from a dear friend of mine whose account can be found here (her art is amazing). Seeing some of those artists improve through time also motivated me to do the same.
After that, I drew non-stop. I'd start drawing in the evening until midnight or 1am. That's when I had the most inspiration... wow, talking about this is tempting me to join DeviantART again!
Anyway. I drew my characters and different situations with each of them.

The main character was called... Lola Ferricks (left: she usually has clothes, but this one is to show off, hehe). That's where my nickname comes from. She was inspired from a Ratchet and Clank character called Sasha Phyronix (right). Lola also has a brother, a boyfriend and is captain of a spaceship.I should really make that comic one day...
So, for years, I spent my time on DeviantART, admiring art, making art, inventing characters...
And then, I had exams to pass. I stopped drawing thoroughly three years ago when I entered what is known in France as "lycée". Google it, I can't explain, haha.
So yeah, I did still draw, but my imagination was becoming blocked by stress... the real world was slowly starting to munch on my creativity (yeah, I'm aware that sound a bit weird).
My Dream's Impact On Me Today
I've now decided, as you all know, to get my diploma before deciding on anything, but I doubt I'll try and make comic-writing a career). I can't even draw that well, when I think about it. And I've found that I'm more for moving about than sitting down. Comic-writing takes a lot of sitting down and not much movement which I couldn't take for very long.
On the other hand, I love story-writing and still enjoy settling down a bit and relaxing while drawing one of my characters or a scenario. Maybe one day I'll give it a try if I have the time and publish a small story. But I'm not too hopeful.
Any artists out there? I love browsing art and would love to take a look at what you do!
Share your art in the comments!
Thanks for reading; keep on dreaming!
~ Lola out!
I always found your artwork charming Lola, its not on the same level as Picasso or as popular as the neck chested anime characters, but it has its own look and style to it.
ReplyDeleteIts easy to tell that Ratchet is a big influence, but there is a hint of Sonic in there too and maybe ponies too. x)
Oh wow, I completely forgot to mention them! Especially Sonic.
DeleteProbably because, deep down, I'm ashamed to have ever drawn in those styles. :')
Well since we're talking about Sonic and childhood comicbooks, I invented one called Action Ant, about a black ant super soldier who goes on missions behind red ant enemy lines. Also the main baddie leading the red ants was Doctor Robotnik (or Doctor Eggman for the philistines out there), at least until three men wearing suits with Sega logos pinned to their jackets burst into my house, snapped my crayons in half, ground the heel of their shoes into the pages of my comic, and shot my puppy on the way out.
ReplyDeleteThat is... that is nice stuff. :L
